This is a company car bought in 2013 with 1,377 for us to have a little fun. In fact, it now has 8,000 miles as we’ve had a lot of fun!
The angry AMG 6.2-liter V-8 normally aspirated engine growls and howls upon start up and acceleration. Power from the 6.2-liter V-8 is 481 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. The AMG engineers have fitted the seven-speed Speedshift Plus MCT automatic, which trades a conventional torque converter for a clutch pack with paddle shifts. The new transmission, first seen in the SL63 and now spreading throughout the lineup, allows the driver to choose from four different driving modes and includes AMG’s Race Start launch-control function.
First thing we did was a RENN HAUS DME Tune, install equal length long tube headers and fabricate a custom exhaust. This brought the power to about 580 hp and 580 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes Benz had deliberately chocked the throttle body so as not to produce this crazy power in such a light weight coupe.
In Manual or Sport+ mode the engine will spin the tires under full load and when shifting to 2nd, 3rd and 4th! Haven’t timed it yet but our experience says this car is very close to 3.0 seconds 0 to 60 mph. The exhaust note now barks and screams.
